Raphael Varane, a defender for France who spent ten years with Les Bleus and won the World Cup in 2018 and finished second four years later, has announced his retirement from international football.

The 29-year-old helped Didier Deschamps’ team win the UEFA Nations League in the 2020–21 season. He has 93 caps overall since making his debut in 2013.

One of the greatest honors of my life has been serving as a representative of our lovely country for ten years “In a statement, Varane stated.

“When I put on that unique blue jersey, I always felt a deep sense of responsibility to give my all, to play with passion, and to succeed every time we took the field.

“After giving it some thought, I determined that the timing was appropriate for me to leave the world of international football.”

The defender for Manchester United assisted France in reaching the World Cup final in Qatar last year, when they lost to Argentina on penalties.

Hugo Lloris, the 36-year-old captain and World Cup-winning goalie for France, announced his retirement from international football a few weeks before to Varane’s announcement.

The defender went on to say that a “talented bunch of young players” needed to assume the leadership role.

“Raphael contacted me a few days ago to inform me that he was ending his profession as an international businessman. He’s a smart kid who understands how to consider all the options and balance the benefits and disadvantages before making a choice “Deschamps, the France coach, said.

“Raphael thinks his journey with the French squad has come to an end. I can relate to him since I’ve been in a similar circumstance, and I support his decision and his right to make it.

As our paths diverge, I wanted to commend his integrity and unwavering devotion to the blue jersey. For the past ten years, Raphael has been an important player both on and off the field.
