After the stunt, the 33-year-old vocalist has received a lot of negative feedback from fans online.
But according to people close to Matty, he was saluting with his left arm rather than his right, as the Nazis did.
Defenders went on to say that he does not subscribe to Nazi principles and that he was only making fun of disgraced rapper Kanye West for his anti-Semitic remarks.
The salutation was given as he sung the line from their song Love It If We Made It, “Thank you, Kanye, very awesome.”
Nearly five million people have seen the video that was shared on Twitter, and it has prompted many followers to ask Matty to explain the issue.
