On January 27th, GoldenEye 007 will launch on Xbox and Nintendo Switch

This week, GoldenEye 007 will finally be available on Xbox and Nintendo Switch. GoldenEye 007 HD, a remastered version of the storied Nintendo 64 game that debuted in 1997, is being made available on Xbox by Rare. On January 27th, the game will be released on Xbox and Nintendo Switch, with a revamped Xbox version including split-screen local multiplayer and 4K quality.

Since Nintendo is utilizing the original game, online multiplayer options will only be available in the Nintendo Switch version of the title. GoldenEye 007 has been “faithfully recreated” on the Xbox by Microsoft, but it will also have a local multiplayer mode for split-screen play with pals. The Xbox version of GoldenEye 007 will be playable on Xbox One and Xbox Series S/X consoles.

In conjunction with its Nintendo Switch Online service, Nintendo is dispersing GoldenEye 007. Although you had to spend a lot on the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack tier to obtain access, N64 games were added to the service back in 2021.

Along with cheat modes, compatibility for two analog sticks, and native 16:9 aspect ratio up to 4K, the original campaign mode will also be accessible on Xbox. GoldenEye 007 is free and includes with any digital copy of Rare Replay that you already have on Xbox. The game will be included in Xbox Game Pass as well.

GoldenEye 007 has taken a while to come out because a contract to produce an HD remake for the Xbox 360 in 2008 was hindered by licensing and rights difficulties. The original single-player campaign and local split-screen multiplayer were supported in the Xbox HD remake, which leaked in 2021.
