Real Madrid defeated Saudi Arabia’s Al Hilal 5-3 in the Club World Cup final in Rabat to win the trophy for a record-extending sixth time.
Federico Valverde and Vinicius Jr. both scored twice, while Karim Benzema also scored to give the defending European title victory.
“We are overjoyed. According to Reuters, manager Carlo Ancelotti informed Telecinco that Real Madrid had won the World Cup for the ninth time.
We produced a solid game that had a strong front end. Vinicius, Benzema, and Valverde have all performed admirably. They displayed quality and competence. It was excellent.
Vinicius Jr. revels in his goal.
Real was the favored team in the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium, despite the fact that the score was only 2-1 at halftime (Vinicius Jr. and Valverde gave the Spaniards a 2-0 lead before Moussa Marega scored for Al Hilal).
Real was in charge of the game the whole time, controlling possession and having 11 attempts on goal to Al Hilal’s three, but the defense was occasionally breached as Marega and Luciano Vietto caused issues for Real’s defenders.
Fans were treated to a thrilling, enjoyable match. After Benzema made it 3-1, Valverde increased Real’s advantage by setting him up.
Vietto cut the lead in half and added a second goal in the 79th minute, but Real never appeared to be in trouble.
Real’s victory means that European teams have now won eight overall world championships after the club won three Intercontinental Cup trophies, which was the forerunner of the Club World Cup.
With four titles apiece in the two tournaments, AC Milan and Bayern Munich are the next two most successful teams.
